Signed Fine Art Print of the Common Garden Spider
Signed Fine Art Print of the Common Garden Spider
As a young entomologist romping through fields with my net, I would often encounter multitudes of these spiders, their tough, yard-wide webs strung directly across my path. By late summer, there was hardly an overgrown field that didn’t have hundreds of these big, beautiful spiders and their sticky traps. I learned to avoid them, since wading through a few always meant being tied up with their sticky, surprisingly strong silk strands. Also: Spiders really creep me out!
This painting faithfully and precisely reproduces the beautiful colors and striking design of the insects I have pursued and studied since childhood. My style is inspired by that of my grandfather, Arthur Cushman, a noted illustrator who worked for the Smithsonian Institution and the USDA, whose paintings and drawings helped set the standard for scientific illustration in the mid 20th century.
