Limited Edition Eastern Meadow Fritillary Signed and Numbered Fine Art Print
Limited Edition Eastern Meadow Fritillary Signed and Numbered Fine Art Print
This numbered and signed work, from a limited run of 50 fine art prints, makes a one-of-a-kind gift.
Seldom noticed by anyone but the most attentive butterfly enthusiasts, the eastern meadow fritillary appears in early summer, flying low across fields, parks, and even golf courses. As a young lepidopterist I learned to watch for them around the first few weeks of June, and they could always be found, often in good numbers. There are several similar species that occur across Europe and Canada; some of these are quite rare and live in arctic environments.
This painting faithfully and precisely reproduces the beautiful colors and striking design of the insects I have pursued and studied since childhood. My style is inspired by that of my grandfather, Arthur Cushman, a noted illustrator who worked for the Smithsonian Institution and the USDA, whose paintings and drawings helped set the standard for scientific illustration in the mid 20th century.
